Problem

US SOUTHCOM required a 30-minute course that focuses on “Operations Security” or “OPSEC,” the process of protecting unclassified information that could be used against an organization by an adversary. While US SOUTHCOM already had a variety of instructor-led training offerings on OPSEC, they wanted to create a mandatory annual e-learning course on the subject that would be engaging, immersive, and directly relevant to the real-world OPSEC risks their military personnel, contractors, and families face every day.

Solution

BLS developed a custom course player that provided an immersive experience featuring original, dramatic video scenes. The learner was tasked by a "colonel" to investigate gaps in operations security following the deaths of two operators on a clandestine mission. Looking through emails and social media posts and listening in on employee conversations, the learner had to identify where critical information was leaked.
